MABOPA and Higher Education Press China Forge New Publishing Partnership

Kuala Lumpur, October 23, 2024 – MABOPA (the Malaysian Book Publishers Association) hosted a highly successful meeting today with a delegation from the Higher Education Press (HEP), China, led by President Liu Chao. The event, hosted by Sunway University, marked a significant milestone in fostering international collaboration between Malaysian and Chinese publishing industries.

The meeting was attended by members of the MABOPA Executive Committee, along with President Sheikh Faisal Sheikh Mansor, who warmly welcomed the Chinese delegates, MABOPA members and representatives from MAPIM (the Malaysian Scholarly Publishing Council). The discussions focused on exploring collaborative opportunities and shared visions for future projects.

President Liu Chao expressed great enthusiasm for potential partnerships in several key areas. These included Chinese language learning and teaching materials, vocational education resources, and academic co-publishing, focusing on children’s readers, textbooks in emerging fields, and co-publishing English-language monographs and journals. He also noted interest in exploring digital education initiatives, particularly in the area of digital textbooks and online courses, recognizing the need to further understand Malaysia’s digital education landscape. His proposals were met with strong interest, paving the way for potential strategic cooperation agreements in these fields.

The highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing the collaborative framework between MABOPA and HEP. This MOU will serve as the foundation for continued dialogue and joint initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of educational resources in both countries.

The meeting concluded successfully, with participants expressing optimism about the future of this partnership. The involvement of MABOPA’s EXCO, the signing of the MOU, and the shared vision for collaboration are expected to have a lasting impact on the publishing landscape, creating new opportunities for educational and digital advancements in Malaysia and beyond.
